Circumference of a Circle GCSE Maths

Circumference means the distance around the outside of a circle. GCSE questions may give either the radius or the diameter.

Example

If the diameter is 12 cm, the circumference is π × 12 = 12π cm, which is approximately 37.7 cm.

Exam tip: Choose the formula that matches the information in the question.
Common mistake: Students sometimes confuse area and circumference formulas.
