Geometric Sequences GCSE Maths

A geometric sequence is a sequence where each term is multiplied by the same number to get the next term.

Example

In the sequence 3, 6, 12, 24, each term is multiplied by 2. The next term is 48.

Exam tip: Check whether the pattern is addition or multiplication before choosing your method.
Common mistake: Students sometimes confuse geometric sequences with linear sequences.
