Linear Sequences GCSE Maths

Linear sequences are sequences where the same amount is added or subtracted each time. They are a common GCSE Maths topic and are often used before moving on to nth term questions.

Example

In the sequence 4, 7, 10, 13, the difference is +3 each time. The next term is 16.

Exam tip: Always check more than one gap before deciding the rule.
Common mistake: Students sometimes look only at the first two terms and miss a pattern that changes later.
