Sector Area GCSE Maths

Sector area questions ask for the area of part of a circle. The method is based on the angle of the sector.

Method

Sector area = angle ÷ 360 × area of full circle. For example, a 90 degree sector is one quarter of a full circle.

Exam tip: Write the fraction angle ÷ 360 before doing any calculator work.
Common mistake: Students sometimes calculate arc length when the question asks for area.
