Translation GCSE Maths
A translation moves a shape from one position to another. The shape stays the same size and faces the same direction.
What to Remember
- The shape does not change size.
- The shape does not turn.
- Every point moves the same distance and direction.
- A vector can describe the movement.
Exam tip: In a translation vector, the top number is horizontal movement and the bottom number is vertical movement.
Common mistake: Students sometimes mix up left and right movement when reading negative values in a vector.
